Characters in the plot of “Eastern Chronicles”:
The Invisible Hand: Many supernatural events and folklore tales in the early to mid-series may stem from the unconscious energy dissipating from the Multiverse, or from her conscious whispers guiding them. The eerie fungal growth in an ancient tomb, the inexplicable withering disease in a village—these could all be traces of her presence.
Revealing the Target: As the plot unfolds, the protagonists gradually uncover a common, ancient will orchestrating all these events. They begin pursuing the legend of the “Primordial Deity” and realize that “Nature” itself is turning hostile.
Possession and Return: Wanxiang's ultimate plan is to find a vessel capable of containing her immense divine essence (“prey”—this could be a powerful spirit beast, a forgotten offspring of an ancient god, or even a predestined mortal) and possess it. Upon success, she would cease to be a spirit and return as a condensed, powerful, materialized embodiment of “Nature,” conducting a “great purge” of the world to restore all things to the “primordial balance,” as if the circle of creation were closing once more.
Philosophical Conflict: Her existence forces the characters (and readers) to ponder: Is the advancement of civilization an inevitable betrayal of Nature? When “Nature” itself seeks your destruction, how should you respond? Resist to the end, or seek a new way to coexist? Her tragedy lies in her transformation from a selfless creator into a vengeful destroyer—yet within Her own logic, all Her actions remain expressions of ‘love’ and “balance.”
