Yaoguai

The archetype of this monster design comes from the mythological snake, which actually favors a combination of a lizard and a turtle. In ancient China, the snake had another name, 螣, and the other was the image of a wild boar, which is also called a swine. The background is treated with ink and wash, which kind of settles down to be the way it is, I guess.
